Christine's bio
Over the years, I have conducted research and evaluations primarily in the fields of education and health. I have expertise researching a range of learning technologies, including Web, mobile, and other devices. My research has spanned the life cycle—from preschool children through adults. While I have extensive experience studying classroom-based initiatives, I am particularly interested in studying the use of learning technologies outside of schools—those that hold the promise of helping traditionally underserved populations access information that can improve their lives.
I also have expertise in evaluating initiatives that are designed to encourage our kids to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). For example, I recently directed evaluations of the “Engineer Your Life” Initiative (NSF 0550710), an Initiative to Change Girls’ Perception of Computer Science: “Dot Diva” (NSF 0753686), an Online Training Module for Informal Science Educators (NSF 0813513), and “Design Squad” (NSF 0810996).
As the principal research scientist at CEG, I am responsible for supervising all research staff and consultants; managing budgets and timelines; conceptualizing research studies; developing study instruments, including surveys, observational data collection tools, and other measures; data collection; performing descriptive, qualitative analyses as well as inferential, statistical analyses of quantitative data; report writing; and presenting research findings at client meetings, professional conferences, and in peer-reviewed journals.
I hold a Ph.D. in education research, evaluation, and measurement from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in applied social psychology from George Washington University, and a B.A. in psychology from Clark University.
One of my most important values is volunteerism. Therefore, I am actively involved in my community. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Concord Education Fund, an independent organization that supports the pursuit of excellence in our schools by granting funds for the development of curricula, programs, and educational initiatives. Since 2008, I have also served on the Board of the Alcott School Parent and Teacher Group (PTG), where I share the responsibility of overseeing PTG communication efforts, including the PTG blog.
